Yorkshire Adventure

It’s been a bit of a slow start for me with photography this year, so I was really pleased that our adventure to Yorkshire was finally here and I could get the camera out.

So our Yorkshire adventure took us from One side of Yorkshire to the other and back again.

And while the weather has not been the greatest for topping up the tan, it did allow for some decent and atmospheric photography.

Brimham Rocks - This place fascinated me, the rock formations looked like they belonged in the Australian outback, and not in North Yorkshire.

The rock formations formed around 320 million years ago from river deposits that formed Millstone grit.

Over millions of years the sandstone layers have been fractured by wind & rain creating these amazing gravity - defying shapes.

From Brimham Rocks to Malham Cove. Another incredible sight in Englands natural landscape.

This time the Limestone paving formed as glacial meltwaters plunged over the cliffs as a waterfall at the end of the last ice age around 12,000 years ago

While this adventure started off as a nice stroll along a pretty even footpath to the base of the cliff, it soon became a hard slog to the top, climbing over 400 uneven steps and gaining 260 feet.

The limestone paving may look great, but it’s horrible to walk on and could easily snap an ankle, so we opted for the easy route back down!

A nice 4.5 mile loop from the top of Malham Cove, past a waterfall called Jane’t Foss and back to the start. (Much nice then the steps 🤣)

Next we headed to Whitby for some fabulous Scampi and Chips as well as seeing the ruins of Whitby Abbey. It was a pretty stormy looking day, but this with just a hint of light on the Abbey made for a good photo

During our visit to Yorkshire, we walked miles along the cliff tops from Flamborough Outer Headland to Bempton Cliffs RSBP Nature reserve.

The views were beautiful, the noise from the nesting sea birds was incredible and we topped our trip off by seeing some Puffins. 😁
